I have previously covered a few area of buying diamonds, but I have not explored the subtle differences in regions and some certain aspects of the diamond exchange market.
I will try to address these topics here.
There are literally hundreds of diamonds you can purchase, Canadian diamonds, Brazilian, African.
You can also select between yellow, red, white, and a few other colors. Where should you buy one and which one should you choose is a very good question.
First, go to a diamond exchange that is run independently by many dealers, this was to avoid colluding of prices among dealers, if they are all run by the same person, prices will not vary.
Second, decide which cut you want. Are you looking for a large diamond, or just a flat relatively sparkly diamond? Certain diamonds are known for their cuts by their designers, such as a Belgian diamond.
Although you might be able to obtain a reputable and professional dealer in Brazil , the quality or cut is sometimes crude.
In Canada you can obtain some very marketable diamonds of higher quality. Just be sure to buy a diamond and not some fabricated cubic zirconium.
If you are going to buy a diamond, don't buy on impulse.
Never buy the first one, shop around and look at the competition.
There are many styles and cuts and sometimes prices are drastically different with other dealers. So be prepared to walk away and tell them you will come back.
Never get stuck at a diamond exchange with the first dealer and diamond you laid your eyes on, they will pin you with a large sale price and not the diamond you were looking for.
They are salesmen trying to make money, so beware.
